Review: Amon Amarth – Berserker

Artist: Amon Amarth
Album: Berserker
Label: Sony Music Australia
Release Date: May 3rd 2019

The 11th album from Swedish metal master Amon Amarth, might just be the one that pushes them into the next level for heavy, extreme, metal bands. Currently comprised of Vocalist Johan Hegg, Guitarists Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg, Bassist Ted Lundström, and Drummer Jocke Wallgre

The choice of Jay Ruston who has worked with Anthrax, Steel Panther, Stone Sour, may be confusing to some, but his body of work speaks for itself and “Berserkers” production shows why he is an in demand producer and engineer.

“Mjölner, Hammer of Thor” has moments of bright brilliance and brutality rolled into one, while Fafners Gold” has a great clean approach leading into the fast and frenetic body of the song.  “Valkyria” is huge with moving moments of dynamics that sets it apart from a lot of metal today, and the finale epic ending track rounds out the album with its great orchestral feel and emotion.

Many people say Amon Amarth are predictable maybe so, maybe they just do what they do, and do it well. You can’t say anything against a band with a proven formula that sells albums and fills concert halls.
