A night with Australian Rock Royalty, Baby Animals and Killing Heidi!  Two amazing bands with female powerhouses front and centre! The Tivoli was a buzz with people for the sold out Final show of their tour.  Everyone excited to see these 2 bands kick into their sets with everything they had.

Ella Hooper

Killing Heidi opened the night and as they took the stage and the music started my first through was ‘no-one rocks a body suit like Ella Hooper’! Absolutely stunning as the lights picked up the glitter, sparkling from head to toe!

Before I knew it the crowd was dancing and singing at the top of their lungs as we were introduced to just how powerful Ella’s voice is live.  Her vocals roared and were backed by the amazing band who were flawless!  Although we were missing the other lead member of the band Jesse Hooper, who is off having a baby (Congrats!!), his shoes were filled by the very talented Gillan Gregory.

Ella Hooper

The set started with the popular ‘Calm Down’ from their 2004 self titled album and continued to cover hits from all 3 Albums.  There was also some special moment thrown in with Ella’s solo song Data Dust, which was her entrant song for this years Eurovision, and a tribute to Chrissy Amphlett of the Divinyls with ‘Boys in Town’.  They closed out the set with the Album version of ‘Weir’ which was what the crowd had been waiting for!  The crowd erupted into choruses and everyone was left with having enjoyed the trip back to our teenage years!  As someone who was always a huge fan of Killing Heidi, seeing them live was an experience I will always hold fondly!

A short interval and the house music stopped and we were treated to Khia’s famed tune, ‘My Neck, My Back’ which certainly pumped up the crowd, and also the band members who were having a dance side stage before it was their turn to take over the Tiv.  And take over they did.

Dave Leslie and Mick Skelton

Baby Animals are ALWAYS as good show!  Busting out of the gates with ‘Rush You’  and ‘One Word’, Suze DeMarchi still holds the crowd in the palm of her hand.  She has an ambiance of sophisticated seduction as she dances with her guitar in hand and blows us away with her powerhouse voice.  Baby Animals are one of the tightest band out there with Dave Leslie on Guitar, Dario Bortolin on Bass and Mick Skelton on drums, they are a force to be reckoned with and it’s no surprise that their shows sell out time and time again.

Suze Demarchi

Showcasing their hits from 1991 through to 2018,I was thrilled to see them do ‘Tonight’ live, which Suze shared with the crowd, ‘this one is for my Dad’.  I alway enjoy the ever popular ‘Early Warning’, which closed out the first part of their set.  It wasn’t long til Dave Leslie graced the stage again and began a short solo before he was joined by the rest of the band for a jam into the beginning of their 3 song encore starting with the wonderfully bluesy ’Impossible to Fly’.  ‘Under your Skin’ and ‘Ain’t Gonna Get’ closed out the set for the night and ended what had been a fantastic tour for the Baby Animals and Killing Heidi.

I’m so happy when I see a sold out gig, but even happier when it is for musicians from our own back yards.  The Australian Music Industry has produced some amazing bands and these 2 are certainly some of the best!  And while these bands continue tour, I will do my bit and continue to support our live music industry!  It’s such an important part of who we are and we are all responsible for doing our bit!

So get out, see these great shows and I promise you, if you see these 2 bands out touring, you will not be disappointed!!

Thanks for having us guys!!
