Review: Pete Murray – The Night

Artist: Pete Murray
Album: The Night EP
Label: Sony Music Australia
Release Date: March 5th 2021
Reviewed By: Hayley and Andrew Treadwell

Recorded in his hometown of Byron Bay, THE NIGHT EP, is inspired by his family and the life experiences that have gotten him to where he is today. It’s a poignant, introspective EP that highlights Pete’s iconic vocals with rich acoustic sound and propels Pete further into the iconic, easy listening sphere that he’s well loved for.

The first single off the album, and the first single in 3 years Found My Place was Co-written with Gavin Slate and is about staying true to yourself,  following your own path and having faith in the journey for you and your loved ones.

If We Never Dance Again has beautiful piano’s, harmonies and a laid back drum vibe – Like a goodbye letter, but reminding someone of the good times – Written with writer and producer Morgan Dorr (Boys Like Girls), On its inception Pete explains: “Morgan had the first line of the chorus  written when I got to his place, which was, “If you never see my face again” and the three chords that played over this. We worked on the song all day and I even cancelled another session that I had booked in just so I could finish this song as it felt like this had so much potential.” After returning to Australia, the pair worked  together across continents to produce the song you hear today.

Because Of You has a very John Mayer Vibe about it.  It’s funky while still keeping in with the underlying theme of the EP.It’s a strong theme.  Love, reflection, loyalty, which is felt even more in the final 3 song on the EP.

We’ll Be The Fire – seemingly reminds you to keep your faith in the person you love and never give up on love

I love the intro into The Fall Apart, and I love the lyrics. I love how relatable music can be and Pete hits the nail on the head with this again and again.

Finally we come to, Waiting For This Love.  The harmonies are gorgeous. They really bring the story of this song deeper.

Overall I think this EP is some of Pete’s most beautiful work yet.  There is so much to like about it. The music is great, the lyrics are great, the vibe is great. Seriously, just go out and buy it!!

The EP is available for pre-order now and is set for release March 5th, delighting fans with an  earlier release date from its original scheduled date.

With the earlier release date, Pete will be playing the new tracks, plus crowd favourites at the upcoming By  The C Festival. For more dates and details on where you can hear him live, visit:
