Well it’s been a while. Heading out on a chilly Saturday in the outer suburbs of Melbourne was just the ticket, a lot of people needed after being deprived the opportunity for so long. Sound System Studios was the host of a sell-out show featuring two of Melbourne’s finest hard rock acts. Despite it’s small size, the venue provides a great cosy setting for guests to enjoy the show from vantage points both upstairs and down on the floor. A small bar and room for a couple of hundred people works just fine with a friendly atmosphere.

Hitting the stage first up was Karly Jewell with a smashing set with songs such as Sid n Nancy, Smells Like Trouble, Let You Down, Bad Woman and Trouble We Are amongst others. This band always provides a tight professional performance having showcased their wares on the famous stage of Whiskey A Go Go in previous years. With a line up which includes Mariano Marcos – Drums Dave Beaton – Bass Adrian Kluke – Guitars Karly Jewell – Vocals They will be creating great music for years to come. Catch them on the HELLZ ABYSS TOUR across the country this year.

Headline act, Chasing Lana really know how to pull a crowd having amassed a loyal following over the many years of performing. Despite the fact of not gracing the stage in 14 months, the cobwebs were well and truly blown off early and the eager crowd lapped it up from the outset and bounced along to the hard hitting beats and riffs. An electrifying set featured songs including Down Again, From The Inside, Thoughts of Sorrow, Drama Queen, Save Me, My Agony and Fade Away from their collections of Ep/Albums In a World of Disarray, Suffocate/Medicate and The Fight.

Also included in the set were three cover songs which absolutely whipped the crowd into a frenzy. Breed by Nirvana and also obviously deeply moved and inspired by the recent passing of hero Taylor Hawkins whose portrait adorned the bass drum head, covers of Everlong and My Hero by The Foo Fighters. Another great performance by Dave Cutting – Vocals/Guitar Robbie Cutting – Lead Guitar Chris Coote – Drums Keith Harland – Bass No upcoming shows, but keep your eyes on their socials. Thanks to the venue, staff, performers and crowd for a super fun night.
