What an amazing start to the year for gigs!! And this one certainly topped off the first month,
in what feels like the first year we have had a bit of normality in live music. I love arriving at Suncorp Stadium for a gig. It’s an impressive stadium and I always know I am going to have a good time. But man it’s shit to get into the stadium itself!
But, that is my only negative. I hate negatives.

Post Malone. What a great choice of opener. This guy is sensational. I wasn’t sure if I would know a lot of his songs to be honest, he is someone my kids love and I hear on the radio from time to time, but I know he is a pretty big deal and after seeing him live, I totally get why! And I knew heaps of his songs!!

He took the stage in a lowkey manner and let the songs do the talking, but also showed us we were in for a treat with pyro blasting during the mid opening number, ‘Wow’. There was fire on the stage, amazing artistry on the screens and fireworks off the roof of the Stadium as Post performed his hits ‘Circles’, ‘Rockstar’, ‘Sunflower’ and ‘Congratulation’. The Crowd was lapping up every second of this great set. Bringing his fun and funky dance moves, humor and gratitude, Post Malone is a loveable musical sensation who had no trouble holding the focus of 40,000 + people!

Brisbane welcomed Post Malone in a fashion that I hope sees him back hear on his own tour really soon! One I definitely want to see. Now for me, the excitement really started to build! Pumped up from Post Malone, I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see Red Hot Chili Peppers for the first time! And they did not disappoint!

The stage was gorgeous with it’s lava lamp like images on the screens, the way they enveloped the stage made it look like the band was levitating on a sea of lights. Chad, Flea and John took the stage first with a fantastic jam showcasing their talents! They
were soon joined by Anthony running onto the stage as the band broke into ‘Around The World’, followed by ‘Dani California’ and ‘Scar Tissue’. What a first 3!

The Chili’s player songs spanning their amazing career and I think fans old and new were thrilled by the variety! Notable crowd favorites were ‘Otherside’, ‘I Could Have Lied’, ‘Californication’ and the main set closed out with ‘By the Way’. Not long and the band returned to the stage for their encore which delivered 2 final, huge songs, ‘Soul to Squeeze’ and we all danced our butts off to the final song of the night ‘Give it Away’.

I couldn’t take my eyes off the band all night, the chemistry between them is off the charts! They are full of energy and so entertaining as they jump and run around the stage! And the way Flea slaps that bass is really something to see live. Flea’s partner of low end, Mr. Chad Smith is a mix of a human metronome and a free flowing octopus, he delivers it all. And the welcome return of John Frusciante to the Chilis really completed it. He is the glue of the band.

I will say as a life long fan I was sad not to hear classics like ‘Under The Bridge’ and ‘Suck My Kiss’, but that just means I am definitely going to be there to see them when the Chili’s hopefully return, one day.

Suncorp stadium was absolutely packed and the fans were treated to 2 fantastic acts on a very warm Sunday night in Brisbane. I am certainly a new fan of Post Malone and was thrilled to see one of my favorite ever bands. Thank you to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Live Nation and Revolutions Per Minute PR for having us along.

Until the next gig
