As the crowd filed out of the Entertainment Centre you could hear the same sentiments over and over again. “Best Show Ever”, “Well Worth The Wait”, “I Can’t Believe (insert members name) Is Soooooooooo HOT”. Could have been mistaken for a Beatles concert in the 60s but no it was return of the boy band legends Backstreet Boys on their DNA Tour
Samantha Jade kicked off the evening, and worked the crowd into a frenzy. She was full of energy, and her positive nature was noticeable. She was genuinely thankful to be on an arena tour, and the crowd reciprocated in turn.
The Backstreet Boys make great use of technology and their opening video montage was an amazing way to get the crowds heart rates up. There were squeals, screams and tears, and all before one member hit the stage.
On the cusp of their 30th Anniversary they could easily ride the nostalgia train for the rest of their careers, but it was refreshing to see them not shy away from the new material and display their pride in their newest offering. There were the usual bras on stage, but its the first time I haver seen a band go into “dressing rooms” and change on stage and throw their tighty whities back at the audience, albeit prop ones
The members of the band all took turns in sharing not only the spotlight but also the chance to talk to the audience. They really could just phone it in but they didn’t, they really loved being on the stage. You had them laying down taking selfies with fans in the “expensive person section”, helping the road crew sweep confetti off stage mid song, and in almost every song trying to make each other break character and laugh
They truly are band of brothers and there is a reason they are in their 4th decade. New Zealand, you are up next. Backstreets Back!
