I Prevail has been taking the metal scene by storm with their ‘Violent Nature Tour’, the anticipation to see them live again has definitely been high for me. Seeing them open when they were here with Parkway Drive at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre was definitely nothing compared to seeing them headline a show.

Our first opener, an Invent Animate, an American band originating in Texas, took the stage and from the get go they had the audience in a chokehold. I had not heard their music before, and hadn’t had time to dive into their discography before the show, however it is safe to say I have walked away a fan, and if you haven’t heard of them I definitely recommend checking them out. Vocalist, Marcus Vik, opened the first song with enchantingly soft vocals that did not prepare me for the screams that came next! ‘Heavener’ was definitely a highlight of their set for me! All in all they set off the night with an amazing start, crowd surfers hurtling towards the stage and we saw our first wall of death for the night with the final song on their setlist, they also gave a shoutout to security for the amazing job they were doing and I think that was really awesome to see.

Up next we saw the brilliantly skilled Imminence, a Swedish metal-core band , with a side of violin take the stage and the crowd loved every minute of their set! Vocalist Eddie Burg brings a perfect blend of resonant singing and harsh guttural screams. Their song ‘Death by a Thousand Cuts’ was definitely one of my favourites from their sets, and they ended with a short and sweet violin solo which had the crowd quieting to truly appreciate the talent standing in front of us. Overall their set definitely left its mark on the night and had everyone gathered at Riverstage hyped for who was to come next.

The main band of the night, I Prevail, hit the stage, opening with ‘NWO’, one of my favourites off of their new album was as intense as it was exciting, vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe delivered on each and every song of the set alongside Dylan Bowman who’s clean vocals meshed wonderfully with Eric’s raspy and brutal screams. They played a variety of songs from their discography and the crowd ate up each and every minute of it, and we saw them revisiting their 2014 cover of Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’, now a staple within their fan base. There were many stand outs from the night but for me ‘Violent Nature’, and ‘Gasoline’ definitely were some of my favourites. We also had the witty and hilarious stage banter between Eric and Dylan which kept the crowd very entertained, and gave us a fun insight into the bands dynamics.

As a whole the I Prevail concert at Riverstage was nothing short of a phenomenal night, with the promise of “more things coming” from Eric, it is safe to say that I Prevail fans will be waiting impatiently for their next return to our city. And if you haven’t seen them live but have been wanting to, make sure you grab your tickets the next time they come back out because it is a night you will not regret!
