Celebrating two decades of musical evolution and success, Parkway Drive’s recent homecoming concert was not just an event; it was a monumental celebration of their journey from humble beginnings to international stardom.

For fans and members alike, the night echoed with the weight of nostalgia and the thrill of present-day triumphs. The band’s ascent from local community halls to headlining massive arenas stands as a testament to their resilience and dedication. This milestone concert served not only as a celebration of their past but also as an exhilarating launchpad for their future endeavors.

Kicking off the night was the rising metal band Void Of Vision, whose performance set the tone for an electrifying evening. With their latest album, “What I’ll Leave Behind,” the band showcased their growth and undeniable stage presence, particularly that of frontman Jack Bergin. His connection with the audience was palpable, making it evident that they are on the brink of breaking into the mainstream. Tracks like ‘The Lonely People’ and ‘Into The Dark’ captivated the crowd, affirming that this young band has much to offer the metal scene.

Next up was The Ghost Inside, whose energy might not have matched their predecessors, but their return to Australian soil was filled with palpable excitement. Despite a limited setlist, they poured their passion into every note, reminding the audience of their resilience and deep-rooted connection to the Australian music community. Their enthusiasm resonated with fans and amplified the evening’s sense of camaraderie.

As the night progressed, I Prevail took the stage, showcasing their evolution with an exhilarating performance that compelled the crowd to engage fully. The dynamic between clean vocalist Brian Burkheiser and dirty vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe was electric, and their clever choice to cover a Taylor Swift song added an unexpected twist to the night. Their production value elevated the overall experience, leaving fans buzzing with excitement.

However, the night truly belonged to Parkway Drive. As the band made their entrance through the crowd, a palpable sense of anticipation filled the arena. Their arrival at their B-Stage as the drums rose from underneath, Winston, Ben, Jia, Luke and Jeff wasted no time in ripping into the night. Starting with powerful tracks like ‘Carrion’ and ‘Prey,’ they set the stage ablaze with their signature intensity. Then a walkway lowered from the ceiling joining the B-Stage to the Main Stage, right then as the band turned to watch the scrim drop, allowing the band and crowd to bask in the epic-ness of a stage depicting a desolated urban scene. The elaborate stage setup was a sight to behold, and the moment they transitioned into ‘Glitch,’ complete with dancers, was nothing short of groundbreaking for an extreme metal show.

The surprise guest appearance by Michael Crafter from I Killed The Prom Queen added depth to the performance, demonstrating the band’s ability to innovate while honoring their influences. One particularly heartwarming moment occurred when Winston McCall invited a young fan onto the C stage, leading the crowd to “make a circle pit around the grommet” for ‘Idols and Anchors‘. This act of inclusivity and joy exemplified the spirit of Parkway Drive—a band that has always embraced its fans, fostering a community that spans generations. The medley of songs from “Killing With A Smile” showcased their evolution while reminding the audience of their foundational roots.

As the night drew to a close, Parkway Drive performed ‘Wild Eyes,’ while members took a moment to soak in the atmosphere, visibly moved by the love and energy radiating from the crowd. It was a fitting end to a night filled with celebration, reflection, and the promise of what lies ahead. Fans left knowing they were part of something significant; not just celebrating 20 years of Parkway Drive but marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in their journey. In summary, Parkway Drive’s 20-year celebration was a powerful reminder of the band’s impact on the music scene and their unwavering connection with fans. The night encapsulated the essence of their journey—one that started in community halls and has soared to the heights of stadiums. As they move forward, their legacy continues to inspire and unite, ensuring that the next chapter will be just as thrilling as the last.
