Brisbane’s black metal heart was pulsating as it was treated to an electrifying night of madness, as three formidable acts took to the stage in an explosive display of musical prowess.
The show unfolded like a meticulously crafted chaos, where each band amplified the energy of the crowd, transforming the venue into a cauldron of sound and fervor. From the very first note, it was clear that this was no ordinary concert; it was a celebration of everything heavy and potent in the world of metal.
Melbourne’s own Lune set the stage ablaze with their fierce performance, led by the charismatic frontman Nathaniel Smith. Right from the get-go, they made it abundantly clear that they weren’t merely there to sip lattes; they were on a mission to deliver a sonic assault that would resonate long after the final note had faded. Their crushing riffs and relentless energy laid a perfect foundation for the night, leaving no doubt that they were a force to be reckoned with. Following Lune was the Canadian deathcore wrecking crew AngelMaker, who stormed onto the stage with an intensity that could only be described as headlining-worthy. Kicking off their set with “Creator’s Conscience,” they wasted no time in unleashing a torrent of brutality that engulfed the crowd. The first wall of death erupted during “Bloodthirster,” a moment that crystallized the raw energy in the room. With no breaks in between, they unleashed a relentless barrage of tracks, including “A Dark Omen,” commemorating its 10-year milestone, and the crowd reached its fever pitch during “Leech.” The sheer volume and ferocity of AngelMaker left the audience in a state of ecstatic chaos, effectively igniting a fire of excitement that would carry through the evening.
As the anticipation for Sylosis grew, the venue experienced an unexpected pre-show playlist that caught everyone off guard. The juxtaposition of “Hot Potato” by The Wiggles, followed by John Farnham’s classic “You’re the Voice,” turned confusion into a delightful singalong, creating a light-hearted contrast to the impending heaviness of the final act.
