Cold Chisel – The Big Five~0

The Big Top looked awfully impressive walking down the hill at Victoria Park. It was a gorgeous night in Brisbane and we were ready to celebrate 50 years with one of the very best, Cold Chisel.

As we walked into the unique venue the vibe was amazing, there was such a good atmosphere. The merch lines were overflowing, but I got my stubby cooler without too much hassle.
The food and bar lines moved pretty swiftly and it was a great set up! Walking into the Big Top, a fitting nod to the band’s notorious ‘An Evening with the Circus Animals’ shows where the album launch gigs had an actual circus troupe as the support act, I was in awe! What a space! It really added something special to the show.

But the show itself, that was what was special. There were moments I will never forget and be forever grateful for being a part of.

A sing along, louder than I have ever heard, to ‘Flame Trees’, after Jimmy Barnes shared with us a dream he had about the song and this tour. That story was a moment in itself, but then followed by an amazing performance and the crowds passion, it was a very special time.

Ian Moss singing ‘Georgia (On My Mind)’ was stunning.
Jimmy being quirky about singing ‘Saturday Night’ on a Saturday night,
Just watching those moment between Ian and Jimmy on stage that show why they are still so loved by us Aussie’s.

Cold Chisel played all the classic you would want and then some, ‘Khe Sanh’, ‘Choir Girl’, ‘Cheap Wine’, ‘Bow River’ and one of my many Cold Chisel favourites, ‘Rising Sun’.

I have been a fan since I was a teen, so around 25 or so years and my favorite Cold Chisel song will always be ‘When the War is Over’ which they gifted us in the 2nd encore and the 2nd last song of the night. Again the crowd participation was high, but Jimmy’s growing vocal rang out through the big Top as he made sure he was still louder than us!

And then the band got louder as they delivered the final song of the night ‘Goodbye Astrid’ (minus the trapeze stunts, IYKYK) and the party wrapped up in the best possible way! Everyone dancing singing, cheering and really celebrating everything Cold Chisel has given us over the years and what they gave us tonight.

For those that came to celebrate a band they love, I am certain no body was disappointed. Everyone seated around us was on their feet all night, having the best time. It really was a huge party! One of the best times I have had at a concert. Whether it was the awesome crowd, the Big Top, the beautiful Brisbane night or all things combined that added to the night, ‘Cold Chisel The Big Five-0’ delivered the goods in every possible way!

If you are lucky enough to be seeing them on this tour, you are in for a hell of a show!

To the band and the wonderful folks at Face to Face Touring, thank you for having us along, we truly had the best night.

Until the next gig x
Hayley
