Live Review: Eagles Of Death Metal – Brisbane 2023

DATE: JULY 29TH 2023

The Southern River Band

Saturday 29th July 2023

The Tivoli, Brisbane

Those that arent’ ‘fans would probably be shocked to know that EAgles of DEath Metal are in fact not a metal band, but a fun as fuck, escentric rock band who know how to deliver a good time!

And that started with who they chose to support them while in Australia, WA rockers The Southern River Band. As SRB took the stage I knew we were about to see something special, this band is a whole vibe. Sequin pants and net tops! I am instantly in love with these guys! My goodness did they put on a show! And the harmonies between the band members were unexpected and amazing! I can’t wait to see these guys again, fantastic musicians and entertainers with a bunch of great songs. They certainly got the crowd warmed up for the night’s headlining band.

The crowd had grown to fill the Tivoli and everyone was ready to party when classic Time Warp kicked in and Eagles of Death Metal frontman Jesse Hughes took the stage adorned in a cape and amped up the crowd singing along!

Quickly joined on stage by the rest of the band, and it was the beginning of the best jam sessions we were privileged to witness! The way the band carved it up on stage together and just enjoyed the hell out of the whole night was contagious! The crowd was electric with the energy coming from the stage.

Jesse is incredibly engaging with the crowd and clearly enjoys the adoration from his fans! He is ably supported by the amazing Jennie Vee on Bass, Scott Shiflett on Guitar and Leah Bluestein on Drums. When you are surrounded by players of such an amazing caliber , it allows the person fronting the band to not have to worry, and that’s exactly what Jesse did and encouraged the Brisbane crowd to do. Not worry, have a good time, and join the party.

Performing a great catalogue of songs, including the popular ‘I Only Want You’, ‘Don’t Speak’ and ‘Cherry Cola’, and a captivating performance of David Bowie’s ‘Moonage DayDream’, there was no doubt the biggest moment of the night was the encore which saw Jesse up on the balcony having a riff off with guitarist Scott Shiflett during ‘Speaking In Tounges’! What a moment to be part of! It was epic and a great way to wrap up what was an incredibly fun night of rock music.

Thank so much to Frontier Touring, Eagles of Death Metal, The Southern River Band and The Tivoli for having us along. We are always grateful for the music we get to experience and share with our supporters!

Until the next gig
