GOTHIC GLORY & MAYHEM: Sleepless Empire Tour Storms Brisbane Lacuna Coil + Future Static 12.02.2026
Words and Images by the one, the only Mert Tyson Media
Brisbane turned technicolour the moment the Sleepless Empire Tour rolled into The Tiv. It wasn’t just a gig it was a gothic splattered, riff-fuelled carnival of chaos. The kind of night where your ears ring, your heart thumps, and your soul goes, “Yep… this is living.”
FUTURE STATIC – MELBOURNE’S METAL METEOR
Future Static opened the night and instantly proved why they’re one of the most exciting bands to come out of Melbourne’s heavy scene. If you know anything about Melbourne, you know it breeds bands the way Italy breeds pasta but Future Static aren’t just another export. They’re a movement doing big things.
A little history for the newbies: Born in the underground, raised in the chaos, Future Static have been grinding through the Aussie circuit for years. They’ve survived lineup changes, sonic reinventions, and the wild west that is Melbourne’s livemusic ecosystem. Every shift has sharpened them. Every show has levelled them up.
And now? They’re a fullyformed monster.
Live, they’re a cocktail of gothic atmosphere, grunge grit, metal punch, and emotional storytelling. Vocals that glide from ethereal beauty to fullthrottle fury, Guitars that slice through the air like neoncoloured lightning, A rhythm section so tight it could hold the universe together.
They’re unique. They’re different. They’re bloody beautiful. And they’re only getting better. Future Static didn’t just warm up the room they claimed it, owned it, and left it buzzing.
LACUNA COIL – ITALY’S DARK ROYALTY RETURNS
We’ve been waiting since 2022. We’ve been patient. We’ve been starving.
And finally, Lacuna Coil returned to Australia.
For the uninitiated, Lacuna Coil formed in Milan in the mid90s and helped shape the entire gothic metal genre. They were blending beauty and brutality before it was fashionable. Their dualvocal style, their theatrical aesthetic, their ability to make darkness feel empowering they’ve influenced bands across the globe, including many right here in Australia.
So, to have them back on our shores? A genuine honour. A bucketlist moment. A “pinch me” experience.
They entered the stage like battlescarred warriors, face paint, mystery, beauty and pure Italian swagger. The energy was electric before they even played a note.
They opened with “Layers of Time” a fullforce blast that hit like a freight train dipped in black paint. Andrea Ferro tore through the verses with raw grit, while Cristina Scabbia soared above him with that unmistakable clarity and power. Their chemistry is unreal fire and silk, chaos and control.
Then came “Hosting the Shadow” and “Spellbound,” both delivered with precision and theatrical flair. The crowd was hypnotised.
When “Heaven’s a Lie” dropped, the room erupted. That song is a cornerstone of 2000s metal hearing it live is like being transported back to your teenage bedroom, eyeliner smudged, heart full, stereo blasting.
“Gravity” and “Oxygen” kept the energy high, but the knockout punch was “I Wish You Were Dead.” Live, this track is a snarling beast attitude, venom, swagger. Absolutely superb.
They closed with “Swamped” and “Never Dawn,” and by then Brisbane had fully woken up. The crowd went from polite headnodders to fullblown worshippers. Hands up, voices loud, hearts full.
The artistry. The musicianship. The showmanship. The LOOK. Everything was killer.
If you haven’t seen them yet go!! No excuses.
THANK YOU!
Massive love to Dallas Does PR, Destroy All Lines, and my fam at Hear2Zen for having me along. Nights like this remind me why I do what I do loud music, loud colours, loud vibes, and a whole lot of love for the scene.
