20 Years of “Page Avenue” with Story of the Year

The Tivoli was electric on the 11th of August 2024, as Story of the Year brought their “20 Years of Page Avenue” tour to Brisbane. Fans packed the iconic venue to relive the nostalgia of their breakthrough album. The energy in the room was palpable, as the band took the stage with the same passion that has driven their music for two decades. It was a night where past and present collided, reminding everyone why “Page Avenue” remains a seminal record in the post-hardcore scene.

Behind Crimson Eyes opened the night with a bittersweet set, announcing this tour marks the beginning of the end for them. They didn’t hold back, delivering fan favourites like The Art of War and Revenge I – of the Cradle with precision. Their new track, Dead Drop Dead, offered a glimpse into their final chapter, leaving the crowd wanting more. This farewell tour feels like a victory lap, a final hurrah for a band that has left an indelible mark on the Australian music landscape.

Senses Fail hit the stage next, with their album “Let it Enfold You” at the forefront. While the nostalgia was high, the performance was slightly marred by vocalist Buddy Nielsen’s preoccupation with mic tricks over hitting the right notes. The crowd, however, stayed engaged, drawn in by the sheer energy and the memories tied to each song. Despite the vocal hiccups, the set was a fun, chaotic reminder of the raw emotion that made “Let it Enfold You” a fan favourite.

Story of the Year closed the night, and what a closing it was. Dan Marsala’s vocals were a highlight, blending clean tones with a raw power that had the crowd singing along to every word. Bassist Adam Russell showcased his own vocal prowess, adding depth to the harmonies and bringing a new dimension to the live performance. The Tivoli, three-quarters full at the start, was packed by the time Story of the Year took the stage, a testament to the band’s enduring appeal even amidst the EKKA chaos.

In the end, it was a night that celebrated both the legacy and the future of these iconic bands, leaving fans with memories as powerful as the music itself.
