Australian singer-songwriter and The Voice Australia 2022 winner Lachie Gill enters his most personal chapter yet with new single ‘Are You Okay?’, a moving tribute to his best friend, Justin (“Juzzy”), who died by suicide 11 years ago when Lachie was just 15 years old.
The single arrives ahead of Lachie’s new EP, We Never Said Our Goodbyes, which he will celebrate with an intimate launch show at Melbourne’s Railway Hotel, Fitzroy North, on Friday 2 October.
Written from a place of grief, reflection and hope, ‘Are You Okay?’ explores the lasting impact of losing someone to suicide and the healing that can come from sharing those experiences.
“Grief is a challenging thing to navigate, but writing about him and my experience helped me get through it. ‘Are You Okay?’ isn’t just for Juzzy—it’s for anyone experiencing mental health struggles or anyone who has lost someone close to suicide.”
Lachie first rose to national prominence after winning The Voice Australia in 2022, captivating audiences with his soulful performances, powerful vocals and honest songwriting.
Navigating life in the public eye also brought its own challenges. Facing online bullying and struggling with imposter syndrome, Lachie turned to unhealthy coping mechanisms, which ultimately contributed to anxiety and panic attacks.
After taking time away to reconnect with himself and his purpose, Lachie has returned with renewed clarity, resilience and emotional honesty. ‘Are You Okay?’ and We Never Said Our Goodbyes mark a new chapter for the Melbourne singer-songwriter—one grounded in vulnerability, connection and meaningful storytelling.
Beyond his music, Lachie is a passionate mental health advocate who works closely with Speak & Share, an Australian charity focused on breaking down mental health stigma and creating environments where people feel comfortable having meaningful conversations.
Through his work with Speak & Share, Lachie speaks at schools, sporting clubs and workplaces, with a particular focus on supporting men and young people to speak openly about their mental health. He also plans to travel with the Speak & Share team across Australia’s east coast, visiting approximately 30–50 schools to continue these important conversations.
The release of ‘Are You Okay?’ also comes ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day on Thursday 10 September, a day dedicated to raising awareness and encouraging open conversations about suicide prevention.
Lachie will release We Never Said Our Goodbyes with an intimate headline performance at the Railway Hotel, Fitzroy North, on Friday 2 October, with doors opening at 7pm.
The show will give fans the chance to experience Lachie’s new music in a close, personal setting that reflects the honesty at the heart of the EP.
For an artist first introduced to Australia on one of the country’s biggest stages, We Never Said Our Goodbyes represents something different: a chance for Lachie Gill to tell his story entirely on his own terms.
