News: Megadeth Announce Final Album And Farewell Tour

Megadeth have confirmed that their next album will be their last, with a global farewell tour to follow in 2026.

In a statement posted on the band’s official website, frontman Dave Mustaine reflected on the decision:

“Many musicians reach the end of their careers—sometimes by choice, sometimes not. Most don’t get the chance to bow out on their own terms, still at the top of their game. That’s where I’m at right now. I’ve travelled the world, connected with millions of fans, and the hardest part is saying goodbye.

“We can’t wait for you to hear this record and see you out on tour. If there was ever a perfect time to release new music, it’s now. If there was ever a perfect time to tour the world, it’s now. And yes—this will be our final studio album.

“Over the years we’ve made countless friends, and I hope to see you all on this farewell run. Don’t be angry or sad—celebrate with us. Together we’ve built something extraordinary, something that may never happen again. We started a musical movement, changed the way the guitar is played, and left our mark on the world. The bands I’ve been part of have influenced generations, and I’m grateful for every moment. Thank you for everything.”

Formed in 1983 by Dave Mustaine following his departure from Metallica, Megadeth quickly became one of the most influential forces in heavy metal history. Pioneers of the thrash metal movement, the band earned a place among the “Big Four” alongside Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, reshaping the genre with their technical precision, speed, and aggression.

Over four decades, Megadeth has released sixteen studio albums, selling more than 50 million records worldwide. Landmark releases such as Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying? (1986), Rust in Peace (1990), and Countdown to Extinction (1992) set new benchmarks for musicianship and songwriting in metal, earning the band critical acclaim and a fiercely loyal global fanbase.

Known for their intricate guitar work, politically charged lyrics, and blistering live shows, Megadeth has collected multiple Grammy nominations and won the award for Best Metal Performance in 2017 for “Dystopia.” Beyond awards and accolades, their influence on the metal landscape is immeasurable, inspiring generations of musicians across genres.

With this final chapter, Megadeth invites fans old and new to join them one last time for a celebration of a legacy that helped define and elevate heavy metal worldwide. Dates and details for the farewell tour will be announced soon.
