News: Midsumma Festival Presents Queer Cakes And Butch Bakes – The First Queer Bake-Off In Castlemaine

Castlemaine Pride will host its first-ever queer bake-off Queer Cakes & Butch Bakes on 10
November 2024 for their Castlemaine community to make the gayest, deadliest and best pastry
in the town. This is a free, all-ages and all-abilities event that welcomes everybody to enter, bake
and eat with pride.

Victoria’s Pride Regional Activation Program, delivered by Australia’s premier queer arts and
cultural organisation Midsumma, is proudly supporting this event to bring joy, entertainment and
mouthwatering food to celebrate the culture, history, creativity and determination of the
LGBTQIA+ community in Castlemaine.

There will be six prize categories for everyone to enter in the bake-off with celebrity culinary
connoisseurs from the community present as the judges. Alongside the competition, there will
be entertainment provided by queer cowgirl Jess Parker and a tea party hosted by the Silver
Rainbow Social Club.

Castlemaine Pride is a volunteer-led community group that supports the LGBTQIA+ community
in Mount Alexander. Since 2018, it has run Castlemaine Pride Week to celebrate diversity and
equality in the region.
