“Brace yourselves, rock warriors— Buckcherry’s Roar Like Thunder, their 13th studio triumph, deserves to be hailed as a fierce testament to hard rock brilliance. Strap in, because this album takes no prisoners and offers no apologies—pure Buckcherry attitude from start to finish. Buckcherry’s Roar Like Thunder doesn’t just make noise; it crashes onto the scene with the attitude of a bar brawl, and the raw energy of a thunderstorm!”
Here’s a track-by-track review of the sonic rollercoaster:
Roar Like Thunder
Right from the get-go, the title track punches you square in the face with a snare drum that sounds like lightning striking metal and riffs that hit harder than a caffeine overdose. Josh Todd’s vocals are dripping with raw passion, snarling with that “don’t-mess-with-me” attitude. Guitar solos that could wake the dead. Pro tip: Set this one as your alarm if you want mornings to hit you like a mosh pit.
When the Sun Goes Down
A two-minute speed demon that never lets up. This track races past the listener at breakneck speed, fuelled by infectious drums, venomous riffs, and enough melody to hook you in like an air guitar championship contender. It’s sharp, fiery, and demands a replay before moving forward. Who needs brakes when the gas pedal’s glued to the floor?
Come On
By far the standout of the album (for me! I’m Bias!!) —this tune channels the spirit of AC/DC, and boy, does it deliver! Simple yet effective rock riffs, a driving rhythm section, and Todd’s effortlessly raspy vocals combine into a track worthy of its own anthem. Gang vocals add a charmingly rebellious vibe, another solo that would make Angus Young proud. If this isn’t the next single, I’ll be surprised!!
Talking About Sex
Ah, Buckcherry diving headfirst into their cheeky, signature theme. This track grooves along with guitar effects that flirt with funk-flange. Todd’s vocals remind us that this band loves a straightforward, unapologetic rock sound. Flirty yet punchy—a classic “write-rock-songs-the-Buckcherry-way” lesson.
Blackout
A sleazy rocker with swagger to spare. The sliding guitars and raw chorus give this tune a gritty live-show energy. It’s polished but still raucous—designed for stage antics, crowd chants, and maybe a spontaneous guitar duel in the middle. Buckcherry knows how to craft tracks that translate seamlessly to live performances.
I Go Boom
This drum-driven dynamo that is Francis Ruiz is hard and fast with a melodic chorus that drills itself into your mind. Kelly’s bass grooves are deceptively simple, adding fuel without overwhelming the chaos. Another killer solo ensures this track finds its spot in the setlist during Buckcherry’s relentless touring schedule.
Set It Free
A bit slower yet undeniably groovy, this track is an instant toe-tapper. Its melody and emotional lyrics feel like the soul of the album—a reflective moment amidst the chaos. Todd’s vocals resonate beautifully here, providing a rare, tender edge before you start headbanging again.
Hello Goodbye
If Black Crowes and Buckcherry had a jam session, this masterpiece might emerge from their amps. Beautiful songwriting, heartfelt emotion in Todd’s vocals, and Stevie and Billy’s guitars are practically singing—it’s a track drenched in authenticity and camaraderie.
Machine Gun
Like the weapon it’s named after, this one fires off riffs and drum hits in rapid succession. Todd’s consistent vocals and the backing harmonies keep it groovy, while the relentless rhythm from Kelly and Francis keeps your adrenaline pumping.
Let It Burn
The perfect finale, fast and furious, with an iconic energy that brings the album full circle. It’s a fiery declaration that Buckcherry isn’t slowing down anytime soon. A fittingly rebellious closer that leaves you wanting more.
Final Thoughts
Buckcherry’s Roar Like Thunder is a hard rock clinic. From the punchy production (Marti Frederiksen deserves a standing ovation) to the band’s sheer consistency, this album is a powerhouse. Fans will adore it, and newcomers—well, prepare to convert. The lads show yet again why they’re a staple in modern rock. Hats off, boys—this is rock royalty at its finest and this one is going to be on repeat for a bit!
Thank you Buckcherry for keeping Rock alive!
