Thursday was Hot in Brisbane, and even hotter with Foo Fighters at Suncorp Stadium! The anticipation in the air was high, and thankfully once the sun went down, there was a little breeze and the heat wasn’t too bad!
This was our 2nd time covering Foo Fighters, and for me this was my favourite out of the 2!
Taking the stage first while the sun was just setting on Suncorp, Byron Bay band Mini Skirt delivered a fun and energetic set, lead singer Jacob Boyland reminded me of a young Kurt Cobain if I’m honest, and I found myself dancing along to their set.
Brisbane’s own Full Flower Moon Band were amazing next. I took some time watching each band member’s vibe and as a collective they all just have this ‘groove’. Their songs were raw and fuelled by emotion and life! Lead singer Kate Dillon’s voice at times reminded me of a younger Kate Miller-Heidke, with the rock presence of Chrissy Amphlett and throw in a spec of Courtney Love. Her voice and lyrics make all the right impacts from the stage! I thoroughly enjoyed every part of their set and hope to see them again soon!
Foo Fighters are a no fuss, heart in the hand Rock ‘n’ Roll band!
They came out on stage together as one and Dave took off down the catwalk saying hi to Suncorp Stadium!
Not the most eloquent ‘trip’ back to the main stage, but a fleeting moment in time certainly didn’t stop Dave Grohl leading the Foo Fighters into ‘All My Life’ and the beginning of the most epic 3 hour rock show Brisbane thoroughly enjoyed.
The first quarter of the show was filled with hits, punchy, energetic and so much fun and of course included a huge Brisbane sing along with ‘My Hero’, for the fans we feel Taylor Hawkins here.
As in sure the band do, but their tribute to Taylor later in the night was magic.
This first set on the A stage ended with ‘No Son of Mine’ with a little ‘Ace of Spades’ mixed in! Who doesn’t love a good interlude with Motorhead!
On the B Stage we were treated to a stunning acoustic set, beginning with ‘Wheels’ and ending with one of my favorites moments of the night, Dave thanking the Foo Fighters as the rest of the band left the stage and he performed ‘Under You’ solo. A simply stunning moment I would love to go back to again and again.
Back on the A Stage the band kicked in with the title track of the new album ‘Your Favourite Toy’, followed by ‘Run’ and then one of the best nods to each band member ever, with Dave introducing each member, their previous band and then everyone playing part of one of that bands songs! This was an awesome moment, celebrating each band member and their.
The band performing ‘Aurora’ in tribute to Taylor Hawkins was beautiful, captivating and a beautiful honouring! Thanks for sharing with us your love and grief, as a long time fan it feels very humbling to see some of the biggest rock stars in the world share their humbleness.
With the Foo Fighters Take Cover Tour, we got to go old school several times, where Dave gleefully suggested the young ones in the crowd look to the
The 57 year old next to you to learn the words, or in our seats, the 12 year old looking to his 45 and 51 year old parents, who were losing their minds! And along with the old songs, we got new songs, fan favorites and everything in between!
By the time we got to the final song of the main set ‘Best of You’, I was pretty certain the whole band had given everything they could already, but they returned 5 minutes later and delivered an encore that took me back to sitting in my parents car while they sang along, a cover of Gerry Rafferty’s ‘Baker Street’, my husband and I looked at each other, mouths open in happy shock at hearing this song! The band had previously released it as a B Side on the 10th Anniversary edition of ‘The Colour and the Shape’ Thanks for debuting this one live in Brisbane guys!
Sticking with almost all the way old school, the night ended with ‘Hey, Johnny Park!’ and what seems sometimes like the entire worlds favourite Foo’s song ‘Everlong’! The band played every minute til the Suncorp Stadium 10.30pm curfew.
As they took their final bow out on the catwalk, the Brisbane crowd showed the Foo Fighters their gratitude with one punter even swapping hats with Dave, seeing him leave the stage wearing an Australian iconic Bunnings Hat! What a way to end the night!
A night with the Foo Fighters will always make you fall in love over and over again with raw and powerful Rock and Roll!
A huge thank you to the Foo Fighters and Frontier Touring for having us along, and the always welcoming and helpful folks at Suncorp Stadium. We had a fantastic night!
Until the next gig
