All day I was excited about seeing Lenny Kravitz!!
Jet opened the show and were sensational. They seem to be in a good groove together and that flows from the stage to the crowd. Singer Nic Cester’s vocals were outstanding and he is so entertaining to watch as he delivers each song with such charisma and his own unique style. And I always appreciate when an artist sees something in the crowd someone in trouble and stops the show and gets help, and Nic did just that when a ‘kerfuffle’ broke out in front of him! Thanks for keeping everyone safe mate! Pure class!

Back to the show, the band picked up where they left off and we got to enjoy an amazing take on the band’s cover of AC/DC’s ‘It’s A Long Way to the Top’ and they honoured the song beautifully! It really got the crowd going before Jet jumped into ‘Are you Gonna be my girl’ cleverly playing with lyrics to suit the events of the night, ‘Rollover D.J’, ‘Get Me Outta Here’ and closing their fun and enigmatic set with ‘Cold Hard Bitch’. Great opening to the night!
There wasn’t a huge time between sets, and the lights went down and the crowd went wild as we watched the ever gorgeous and extremely talented Lenny Kravitz take the stage, owning every moment of the appreciation he was receiving from the crowd! And then the lights flashed blue and we kicked into the ‘Blue Electric Light Tour’.
Opening with ‘Bring It On’ and ‘Dig In’, we very quickly were treated to some smooth moves from Lenny as he danced around the stage with his guitar. Immediately his vocals are flawless, and the band is on. It’s loud, one of the loudest shows I have seen at the Entertainment Centre, the stands are rumbling with every bass note and the whole place has erupted into one big party. And it stayed like that all night. Everywhere you looked there were people out of their seats dancing and having the best time! Everytime Lenny thrust his hips the cheers got 10 times louder and the crowd lifted more and more. Running through songs throughout his career we got to hear “Always on the Run’, “Stillness of Heart’ and one of my favorites ‘Believe’.

Every song delivered with such intense passion and fun all in one. This was one of my favourite shows, the energy level was off the charts!
And speaking of energy, I have to take a moment for what I considered a HUGE moment of the night. As Lenny introduced his band, a stage mostly of men, he turned his attention to introduce the crowd to his incredibly talented female drummer, Jas Kayser and before Lenny could get too many words out, the roar from the women in the crowd was something to behold. It lasted for several minutes, and as the roar got quieter, the screens lit up again with this amazing lady and the crowd lost it again! I literally broke out in goosebumps! This was women for women! This was women celebrating a woman in a space filled predominantly by men and it was truly amazing!! Jas, I could see the reaction on your face and I hope you felt every woman in that crowd celebrating you, the same way I did!
Now back to the show.
Along with the 3rd song ‘TK421’, Lenny introduced a short set from the new album during the show and it was a great way to really embrace those new sounds. I feel like there is a little bit more of a relaxed tone and vibe with these songs. I really enjoyed hearing ‘Honey’ live, or more so Lenny’s dancing with the mic stand that went along with it. This man is
outrageously hot on the stage and he knows it!! The crowd is lapping up every minute.
The set ends with everybody on their feet dancing along to ‘American Woman’, ‘Fly Away’ and ‘Are you Gonna Go my Way’ . We get some amazing guitar riffs and solos and everything you expect and more from the talented man and his team on stage. An extraordinary performance of incredible hits that left everyone wanting more.
And after a little wait and lots of cheers, Lenny returned in the encore ‘Let Love Rule’ where the crowd participation is high and so are the vibes as Lenny grabs a microphone and leaves the stage entering the arena and walking around the crowd to get up close with as many fans as he can. Celebrating with fans and friends as they got to celebrate with the man we were all here to see and had such a fantastic night with.
And on the back of that celebration, there is sadness. Literally after writing the above paragraph, Lenny’s Instagram story from after the show last night was brought to my attention and I sat and watched in shock. And am now disappointed in the actions of a fellow show goer.
If the artist you are there to see takes their time to walk to the back of the arena to give as many people as possible the opportunity to say hi, to be close enough to you that you could feel seen by the artist – you do not do anything that could possibly hurt that person. I am in shock. I cannot even imagine how Lenny must be feeling.
So to the lady that somehow thought it was ok to touch his hair, let alone pull out several dreadlocks, inflicting pain on another human being, do not bring yourself to shows until you learn how to be a respectful human being. Disgraceful behaviour and I am not at all bothered by calling it out. Shame on you. Lenny was very graceful in only referring to you as ‘wild’.
I’ve never ended a review on a sour note, and I don’t want to do that here. So I will return to the good and how fantastic Lenny Kravitz was and how grateful my husband and I were to see an artist we consider an absolute legend of our time. You continued and ended the show with such grace and we were truly thrilled to have spent the night dancing away to songs we love having the time of our lives.
To Lenny and everyone on stage, to TEG Live and Identity PR, thank you for an amazing show and for having us along. And Lenny, we hope you are ok.
Until the next gig
Hayley
