Texan prog gods Polyphia made their long awaited Australian Headlining debut, kicking it off at Brisbane’s Tivoli to a completely sold out crowd

Kicking if off were The Omnific, a Melbourne based prog trio. They showed a level of musicianship that is truly hard to come by, but I will say not alot of it is designed to go over the head of the listener. All of the riffs and licks were able to be sung, and the crowd did it quite a bit. They were really well received and I really loved that the band came out and mingled with the crowd, which showed how much they respected the audiences

Headliners Polyphia took to the stage accompanied by a thunderous roar which dwarfed the music from the stage. Then started a theme throughout the evening, the band demanding crowd surfers, starting at 10 and working their way up to asking for 40. One over zealous punter even decided to climb over the upstairs railing and dive into the crowd below. Only problem, no one caught him! Hope you are ok, dude?

Going to be the first to say, instrumental music, generally bores me, and I find it to be somewhat of an ego fest. But Polyphia make it an event, and you really can sing the riffs back. Its easy to see why they have a rabid and huge following. Thanks for a great night!
