Forget the Southern rock labels,  you know exactly what The Black Crowes really are: masters of the “bag of tricks.” Following the unfortunate shuffle of Bluesfest 2026, the band pivoted to a tighter, more intimate Australian tour, and honestly, Brisbane might have won the lottery on this one.

Perth’s own Southern River Band didn’t just open the show; they practically kicked the doors down. Led by Cal Kramer, these rockers blasted through a high-octane set featuring Don’t Take It To Heart, Hurt Em, Stan Halen , Vice City II, They knew exactly how to get a Brisbane crowd simmering, and by the time they walked off, they had the room ready to go

After a lightning-fast gear swap, the intro tape rolled, and Chris Robinson strutted onto the stage, immediately unleashing some legendary funky-ass dance moves, and the swagger didn’t stop all night

The band wasted no time in getting down to business by mixing  the new, high-energy tracks form their latest release, A Pound of Feathers, with Profane Prophecy serving as the set opener,  and the live debut of Eros,( before which Chris joked with the crowd they ‘Wont subject to them to anymore new album tracks for the rest of the night’) with quintessential hits including “Remedy,” “She Talks to Angels,” and “Hard to Handle”, While the entire catalogue was covered, The Southern Harmony And Musical Companion album got the highest representation with 4 tracks (Hotel Illness, Remedy, Sting Me, and Thorn In My Pride)

Watching from our vantage point above the stage, the connection was undeniable. It wasn’t just about the technical precision—though the band sounded tighter than ever—it was about the vibe. You don’t just hear a Black Crowes show; you feel it in your chest.

They proved they are far more than a “Southern rock” band. They are a melting pot of every great artist that inspired them, refined into a sound that is entirely their own. It was a damn-near perfect night of music, and with a performance like that, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nomination shouldn’t just be a “maybe.” It should be a “when.” Fingers crossed this legendary act finally gets their spot in the Hall!
