News: Two Stone Pony Release New Single “Stormy Weather”

Hot on the heels of their debut release, ‘A Life Well Lived’ – which raced to #24 on the Country Radio  Charts, Central Coast outfit, Two Tone Pony, are back with a new single ‘Stormy Weather’, which flexes the band’s energising brand of Country Rock.

‘Stormy Weather’ rolls in with melancholy solo guitar, like a grey fog set to rain down when the band  kicks in. Yet, within the tempest lies a heartfelt tale of enduring love. “I wrote this song for my wife  Jane,” admits frontman and romeo, David Kirkpatrick. “I think every songwriter should write at least  one love song for his wife!”

Having been together for 41 years the couple have weathered countless challenges. “Mind you Jane  wasn’t sure about the title when I first told her,” he laughs, “but the song is about meeting the love of  your life and feeling that together you will both be stronger and able to face any “stormy weather”  that may come your way.”

As the son of Australian legends Slim Dusty and Joy McKean, David has Country Music in his veins.  Yet, Two Tone Pony effortlessly merges this sound with a menagerie of rock influences. “I really wanted a propulsive beat to move the song along – the classic country train shuffle.” David’s guitar – tuned to a gnarly double drop D – pairs perfectly as it resonates from his mother’s cherished 1962  Martin D28.

Production for the song was placed in the trusted hands of Golden Guitar winning producer, Rod  McCormack (Kim Cheshire, Gina Jeffreys), whilst Jeremy Minett (Eyes and Ears Creative) captured  the video. The clip features a troupe of Rock n’ Roll dancers, whom David kept in touch with after a  stint in dance lessons leading up to his daughter’s wedding.

“I rang the dance school we went to and asked if anyone would be interested – we got eight couples  who came all dressed to kill and some even in a vintage hotrod which we used at the beginning of the  clip.”

Two Tone Pony are a 5-piece hell bent on writing truly Australian music – their Country Rock focused sound is both authentic and fresh. ‘Stormy Weather’ puts the band’s talents on full display, cementing  them as a promising act in Australian music.
